Wedding season ... and more
Lines from my reading chair - June 1, 2008

Wedding season

In the past few weeks, the 2008 Wedding season here at Christ the King has swung into full gear.  Actually the first wedding celebrated here for the year was way back in February.  The following couples have already been married here this year:

  • James Michael Carl Ellsworth and Lynn Lorraine Guitard (February 16, 2008);
  • Jonathan Richard Folz and Courtney Lauren Martha MacDonald (May 17, 2008);
  • Quentin David Smith and Holly Susan Nicholls (May 24, 2008); and
  • Justin Allen James Taylor and Emily Jayne Dabous (May 31, 2008)

There are a total of fifteen weddings booked for this year.  Like other significant moments in our lives, these couples cannot continue to live their married lives without the support and prayer of a welcoming community.  Each of us has a part to play in supporting them, encouraging them and helping them to be signs of God’s mercy, forgiveness and joy to the world.

Relay for Life

It seems as though most of us don’t have to look too far or think too hard to find someone we either know personally or are related to in some way who has suffered or is suffering from the ravages of cancer.

In some very fortunate cases, patients have been healed, but in most cases this is a relentless disease that necessitates constant vigilance and sometimes aggressive treatments.  Perhaps the most important thing for anyone enduring cancer, or for their family and friends, is to maintain a positive outlook, to think positively about life.

Every year, in various communities, the Cancer Society sponsors a Relay for Life.  Cancer survivors as well as those who have lost loved ones to cancer can participate, raising funds for the Society while they walk around a designated track or route.  Sudbury’s Relay for Life will take place next Friday, June 6.  Please participate if you can, either physically or spiritually.
