First Communion at Christ the King ... and more
First Communion at Christ the King
For the past couple of months, fourteen children from this parish community have been preparing for the celebration of some very important sacraments. On March 1st of this year, they celebrated God’s gift of mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the very first time.
Over the past few weeks, these children and their families have been preparing for the next step in the journey. Two gatherings for parents and children have been held, and the children themselves were present at the 10:00 am Mass on Mothers’ Day, at which time they were given a special opportunity to see the preparation of the Altar up close.
Next Sunday, June 1st, these children will receive Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time. Candidates for First Communion and their families will be here at the 10:00 am Mass and you are all invited to celebrate this very special day with them.
At the conclusion of the Mass next week, there will be a small reception for these children and their families in the sacristy.
One of the most important things we can do for our children is to remember them in prayer, so please remember them and their families this week.
Building Community
Last month we had a very successful parish breakfast. Opportunities for informal gatherings are an important part of strengthening the bonds of community that bind us together as a parish family.
Next Sunday, June 1st, we will have another parish breakfast in the parish hall, immediately following the 10:00 am Mass. Parishioners will have an opportunity to congratulate the children who are celebrating First Communion, and to share a wonderful breakfast which is being prepared by volunteers from this parish.
The menu will include pancakes, eggs, ham, sausage and all the trimmings and the cost is still only $6 per person. Children under the age of 6 eat free. All proceeds realized at this breakfast will be donated to the Building Fund.
