Corpus Christi celebrations ... and more

Do you hear what I hear?

During the past number of months, we have told you that the Bishop has approved a fundraising campaign which will allow us to make necessary repairs to the bell towers and the roof of our church.

Some people may be wondering why we need to repair the bell towers, especially when we hear bells ringing every day already.  The answer is simple: the bell we hear ringing at noon and during Masses here on Sunday belongs to Ste-Anne-des-Pins.

For a number of years now, the bell that is sitting in our own bell tower is only rung on the occasion of funerals, since we were told by an engineering firm that vibrations from the ringing of the bell could affect the safety of our own towers by loosening the mortar that is already fragile due to water damage over the years.  Once the mortar in the towers has been repointed, we should be able to peal the bells once again.

How can I donate?

In last weekend’s bulletin I spoke of the goal of our fundraising campaign, but some people may still be unclear about how you can help.

  • Those who use envelopes to donate on a weekly basis have perhaps already noticed that there is a series of green envelopes included in this year’s box.
  • Those who would rather donate stocks, bonds or other securities may also contribute to this campaign.  For more information about how to do this, please contact the parish office.
  • In recent years, when making arrangements for funerals, many people will suggest that people make donations to various charities as expressions of sympathy.  Why not consider donations to the Christ the King Building Fund?
  • Other parish groups or corporations may wish to assist us with this campaign.  All such donations are gratefully accepted.

Thank you to all of those who have already begun to express their commitment to this fundraising campaign.  We still have a long way to go, but I’m sure that if we continue to work together, we will reach our goal – together.

Celebrating Corpus Christi

Perhaps some of us remember Corpus Christi processions.  Bishop Plouffe will be here to celebrate a special bilingual regional Mass on the Feast of Corpus Christi, May 25, 2008 at 2:00 pm.  Details about this special celebration are still being finalized and will be published in the near future.
